Practical Paintings

Practical Paintings by Jiyoon Koo

“During past two months in New York, I have been visiting other artist’s studio, office and public space and make new work in such places for few hours. Whereas traditional studio practice isolates artist in the working process, I want to make work by relating to my immediate community and society at large through painting.”

New Normal Business is pleased to present Practical Paintings, Jiyoon Koo’s first exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition will feature new drawings and installation as well as performance documentation videos.
Special thanks to Nancy Barton, Taeyoon Choi, Eddie Chu, Eun Jin Kim, Sophia Kim, Anne Percoco, Kevin Yang who shared their space for the project.

Jiyoon Koo currently lives and works in New York City and Seoul. She has had solo shows at A.I.R Gallery; New York, 175 Gallery; Seoul. Jiyoon has also participated in exhibitions at Horticultural Society of New York and Doosan Gallery, New York. She also curated ‘Ghosting’; a performance and exhibition around the World Trade Center. Jiyoon is a recipient of Santo Foundation Award based in St. Louis and A.I.R Gallery Fellowship in 2011.
